Q.1: Why were Mr. Ahmed’s students excited?
Ans: They
were excited about the visit to a farm. They were to go to a Model Agricultural
Farm
by bus. Mr. Ahmad
had arranged the visit with. Mr. Hassan, the manager of the farm.
Q.2: What surprised the boys when they
reached the Model Farm?
Ans: The
boys had never been to a farm before. They had no Idea that an agricultural
farm
could be so large
and interesting. Naturally the boys were surprised at seeing such a big
farm.
Q.3: What is the name of the machine working
in the wheat field? What does it do?
Ans:
The huge machine is called Combine. It cuts the crop and ties it Into sheaves.
With one
sweep, it seemed to
eat up a large area of the golden crop which came out tied into a
bundle at the other
end.
Q.4: What does a Thresher do?
Ans: From
the combine, the wheat goes into Thresher. The Thresher separates the grain
from
the chaff. From one
end of the machine falls a golden rain of sweet smelling wheat, while
chaff flows out at
the other.
Q.5: How much work can one man do on the
machine?
Ans:
One man working with this machine can do as much work as one hundred men
working,
Without it, This is
the modern method of agriculture forgetting bigger crops.
Q,6: What is the average produce from an
ordinary farm? What is the produce per hectare on
the model farm?
Ans: An
average farm produces 15 to 20 quintals of wheat for every hectare. The model
farm
produces as much as
60 to 70 quintals. The model farm produces three to four times as
much wheat per
hectare as an ordinary farm does.
Q.7: Why Is there a difference in the output
of the two?
Ans:
Tue difference in the output of two is due to usage of modern machine and
farming
methods. The
tractor ploughs deeper, sowing machine sows the seed and chemical
fertilizers enrich
the soil. Best seeds are selected and no seed goes waste. Plentiful water
is used to irrigate
the fields.
Q.8: What do they do to kill germs and
insects?
Ans: Insecticides
are sprayed on the crops to kill harmful insects and germs. The trunks of trees
are washed with
lime. The ground is kept clear from weeds or wild grasses.
Q.9: What do they grow on the model farm?
Ans: They
grow wheat, maize, cotton, sugar cane and gram. They also grow vegetables They
also grow fruits
like mangoes and oranges.
Q.1O: Why were the boys surprised on the
vegetable farm?
Ans:
The boys were surprised to see growing there such vegetables as were out of
season. Mr.
Hassan explained
that it was possible to grow all types of vegetables in all seasons. It only
needed plentiful
water, chemical fertilizers and the use of machinery.
